Outdoor wrought iron should be inspected regularly to catch any trouble spots and deal with them before they can become real problems.
Twice a year, spray down your fence or railing to clear away any dirt. Use mineral oil to lubricate hinges, latches, and springs. If the beginnings of rust have appeared anywhere, buff it out with steel wool, then use a mixture of lemon juice and vinegar to wash it away. Then, touch up the finish with a rust-resistant paint.
